“The Diverse Roles of Universities in Regional Innovation Ecosystems: Case Studies from University of California Campuses”
Martin Kenney (Professor, UC Davis)
Martin Kenney is a Professor at the University of California, Davis and a Senior Project Director at the Berkeley Roundtable on the International Economy. He co-authored or edited six books and 140 scholarly articles on university-industry relations, venture capital, Silicon Valley, and entrepreneurship in the U.S. and China. His first book Biotechnology: The University-Industrial Complex was published by Yale University Press. His three recent edited books Public Universities and Regional Development, Understanding Silicon Valley, and Locating Global Advantage were published by Stanford University Press where he edits a book series. He is an editor at Research Policy. He has been a visiting scholar at the Cambridge University, Copenhagen Business School, Hitotsubashi University, Stanford University, UCSD, and Tokyo University. His research has been supported by the NSF, Sloan and Kauffman Foundations. He has been quoted in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, New Yorker, Xinhua, NPR, and PBS.

“Deep Roots: From Local Entrepreneurship and Innovation to Global Success”
Matthias Kipping (Professor, York University)
Matthias Kipping is Professor of Policy and Chair in Business History at the Schulich School of Business of York University in Toronto Canada. He teaches courses on global management in the undergraduate, MBA and Executive MBA programmes based on historical case studies. Professor Kipping has degrees from the University of Munich in Germany, the Sorbonne in Paris and Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. He held previous appointments at the University of Reading in the UK and Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. He has been a visiting professor at Bocconi University in Milan and at various French and Japanese universities.
His main research interest has been the international transfer of management knowledge, with a particular focus on the role of management consultants and management education. He has published widely on these topics in business history as well as management journals and edited volumes. He recently edited (together with Timothy Clark) The Oxford Handbook of Management Consulting and is currently finalizing a manuscript (with Lars Engwall and Behlül Üsdiken) entitled Authorities on Management: Business Schools, Consultants, Media. His most recent research looks at the local roots for the global success of Canadian multinationals.
